EDUCATION

“i love the workshop because we get to do something you never get to do in your childhood” ( 10 year old participant @PIXEL 8, THE ALBANY LONDON 2019)

georgie pinn designs and facilitates immersive digital workshop programs for all age groups. she creates intuitive mixed reality animation & sound applications that are experimented with in a physical space, using real-time motion capture technology and touch screen devices. the experience offers further immersive agency as participants are able to input their own imagery and concepts. as these ideas come to life through animation, sound and projection, the participants broaden their personal creative development and their confidence to work with interactive multimedia.

this multimodal experience generates deep learning across all the senses. It creates an inspiring platform for new forms of creative expression and promotes the notion of ‘imagineering’. the experience increases their technical skills and adds confidence to their creative ideas, opening their minds to future possibilities.

electric mirror

The workshop draws on the notion of the mirror as a portal to another world where you transform yourself into an animated digital avatar. The students explore the differences between the selfie and the self portrait and uncover a flow state of creative expression in place of perfection. They develop a bespoke avatar using drawing, painting or photographic collage and then bring it to life using motion capture software. They learn how to rig the drawings for live animation, driving their characters with their expressions and movements in real time, like a virtual mirror.

PIXEL 8

(1 day workshop - ages 10-16)

a live visualisation workshop for dancers. the performers are transformed into animators and musicians, as their bodies drive these elements in real-time on screen. Using kinect OSC data, their movement is captured and attached to different parameters. The participants are given a sense of agency, being able to customise their own palette of imagery, sound and effects, experimenting across all mediums.

these digital workshops are tailored for each group of participants, depending on age or skill. all the classes produce animation and sound content that can then be developed further into a range of animated narrative outcomes for the screen or an event.

this learning initiative is called z-access

z-access

(2 days + event - adults)

The workshop was developed during an Art residency produced by Urban Screens. georgie uses generative, data driven software to explore the concept of democratising public screen content. with water as a focus, The artists were able to transform their practise into an animated format that could be manipulated in real-time by the audience in public space.
